Fall Weddings
Fall Weddings are set at a beautiful time of year - the leaves are changing, the air is crisp, and you're getting married! LOCATION: This wedding can be set outside or inside, but if you are going outside keep in mind that it can get cold in the fall. You can hold this wedding in your backyard or a reception hall, but some ideal places might be: an arboretum, so you can see the changing of the leaves, a foresty location or forest preserve, a farm or a barn. You might even consider incorporating a
Country or Western Wedding theme
with this one, if your location fits. COLORS: For colors, think the colors of the changing leaves. Deep reds, browns, yellows, and burnt oranges. INVITATIONS AND SAVE THE DATES: Leaves and pumpkins are good ideas for monograms or shapes for the invitation. Otherwise, go with the fall colors you've chosen for the wedding. FLOWERS: If you like roses, there are many different colored roses to choose from, even for the fall, so check out: Star 2000, Red Berlin, Sari, Terra Cotta, Leonidas, and Hocus Pocus roses. Hydrangeas are another classic fall flower. You can also go woodsy with berries and vines intermixed with your flowers. DECOR: Fallen leaves are hugely popular. Also think: pine cones, small pumpkins, gourds, squashes, indian corn, and fall flowers. If it's close to Halloween, you could have carved pumpkins. Candles in shades like gold look great with fall colors and can be accented with non-flammable leaves or berries displayed around them. FOOD: Having a regular menu is perfectly acceptable for a fall wedding, but if you want to incorporate some of the season into your wedding, some ideas are: Pumpkin soup, Squash soup, meats garnished and flavored by apples, squash sides, and sides with cranberries. As another idea, if you're planning a wedding close to Thanksgiving, you might replicate that dinner. DESSERT: A traditional wedding cake with a fall wedding topper or garnished with candy leaves is a great choice, but if you want some other choices for deserts, think: pumpkin pie, pecan pie, pumpkin or apple cupcakes, pumpkin or apple bread, taffy apples (maybe even a taffy apple bar!), apple pie, and cookies decorated with fall colored sprinkles or cut in the shape of leaves or pumpkins. DRINKS: Hot apple cider screams fall (with cinnamon sticks!). Hot chocolate is pretty good too in the crisp night air. For some alcoholic drink ideas: Carmel Apple Martini, Apple Martini, and cranberry based drinks like Cranberry Vodkas. FAVORS: Packets of cider or tea make nice favors for cold fall nights. Seed packets for tree saplings or flowers are a good green wedding favor, to start life anew in the spring. There are also items like: leaf soap, leaf bottle stoppers, leaf favors of all kinds, pine cone favors, mini pumpkins, and fall scented candles to think about. If you have a sweet tooth, your favors could be taffy apples, personalized M&Ms in your fall colors, candy corn, or a jar of preserves. FUN ADDITIONS: If you're having your wedding in an appropriate location, a hayride might be a fun addition. If it's close to Halloween, you could encourage your guests to dress in Halloween costumes or dress up yourselves (even if you change into the costumes for just the reception!). A pumpkin carving station is something fun for the kids in all of us, as are those silly picture cutouts where you stick your head in and take a picture. Or, even a taffy apple bar, where you can concoct your own taffy apples. Yum! Have a great fall wedding!
