Western Wedding

A Western Wedding can be the perfect wedding for a country Bride and Groom or if you just want something different and fun!

This wedding can be casual, fun and rustic, but you can add elegant touches. It's all in the details. You can go modern or historical. There are infinite options with this theme.

LOCATION: Western Weddings suggest outdoors and country - so ideally, think about having the wedding in a barn, on a farm or a ranch, near the desert, in a backyard, or just in general - outdoors. Other ideas include having the reception at a saloon, Western Themed restaurant, lodge, or cabin.

INVITATIONS AND SAVE THE DATES: To include the western theme in your invitations, add flourishes like cowboy boots, horse shoes, cowboy hats (even have the invite shaped like a hat!),

COLORS: Think earth tones as your colors, since a western wedding should keep in mind the colors of the land. As a complimentary color, though, feel free to choose a bright color that will stand out - think in terms of the amazing colors of a western sunset.

FLOWERS: Wildflowers are perfect for this kind of wedding, but you can also think about cacti, autumn sage, spider lillies, wheat, and corn. Sunflowers are beautiful too!

DRESS: You can go traditional and add a pair of western boots or a cowboy hat. Or, you can go western and wear a western styled wedding dress - from modern to historical. There are places that specialize in this. Accessories can range from hats to boots to jewlery. The groom's attire should match the bride's in theme, as should the attendants.

DECOR: For decor, think horseshoes, artfully placed bales of hay, horse saddles, horse accessories, branding irons, corn, apples, scarecrows, wheel wagons, wheelbarrows, fiberous rope, and other barn tools. You can romanticize these things with a garnish of white toule or white ribbons. Candles and lanterns can add romantic lighting. Cowboy boots and hats are also good decorations. Cowbells might be a fun touch too.

FOOD: A picnic wedding could be perfect for this theme - think grilling steaks and burgers. Or, go BBQ! In general think - steak, chicken, ribs, and beef. For sides - baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, vegetables, cole slaw, potato salad, fries.

DESERT: You can go with a traditional wedding cake with a cute country/western cake topper. If you want to go in the picnic theme, what about a variety of pies? Or, you can have a variety of home baked cookies. Watermelon and fruit can be a sweet and healthy addition to the desert table. And, ice cream is always a favorite!

DRINKS: Punch is a must, whether it be alcoholic or not. Iced tea and lemonade also fits if your food is in picnic theme. For a signature drink - what about green apple sours with real apple slices, the mint julep, Lynchberg Lemonade, apple martinis, long island iced tea, or anything with bourbon or whiskey - the true western beverages of choice!

MUSIC: There should be a staple of country music and/or country line dances. It is after all a western wedding! Or, what about a country band or square dancing?

FAVORS: You can have mini-horse shoes or cowboy hats as favors - perhaps even charms or keychains. Seed favors, for planting your own wildflowers are also a great green and cheaper alternatives. Small cowbells might be an idea as well.

FUN ADDITIONS: What about a game of horseshoes or bean bags? If you're on a farm, what about a hay ride or pony rides for the kids?
